A diploma 9 years later

Matthew Alcalar, left, receives his diploma from Wharton ISD Superintendent Michael O’Quin during the Nov. 17 meeting of the Wharton ISD Board of Trustees. Alcalar was not able to join his classmates at graduation in 2013 because he was not able to pass the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test. He has since passed the state assessment under a new program offered by the state.
