The Wharton Alumni Game was played this past weekend at the Tigers Sports Complex with the Wharton Tigers getting a 9-3 victory over the alumni team, which included members of the 1980 team that earned a trip to the state title game. “It was truly an honor and a blessing to host that game with all those Wharton baseball legends,” Tigers coach Wade Mathis said. “They were good, too, because we had to play good baseball to come out with a win.” Preston Sanchez had an inside park home run and four pitchers played from the mound. Mathis won the home run derby.
