Wharton’s J’Kayla Davis goes up for a layup on the way to a basket against Sealy.

The Wharton boys’ and girls’ basketball games against the Sealy teams were played very differently at home Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The Lady Tigers grounded it out in their 36-32 victory. WHS took the lead for good 26-25 with five minutes to play when J’Kayla Davis scored a basket. She led in scoring with 18 points. But, important free throws in the fourth by Courtney Coleman and Jaydynn Kemper kept WHS ahead. The Runnin’ Tigers had a 20-point lead in the second quarter on their way to an easy 72-40 victory.

The defense only allowed Sealy three points in the second quarter and the visiting Tigers never recovered.

Three WHS players scored in double figures - Joerell Davis (16 points), Roy Gentry (15), and Eric Johnson (11).
