Tiger Fans!

This four-day week has come to an end and Wharton High School athletics have had a very busy week. Our softball/baseball field construction is coming along nicely and we are looking forward to completion.

Our powerlifting, softball, and baseball seasons are right around the corner, and are scheduled to begin practices in the next two weeks.

Over the weekend our Lady Tigers soccer team took second place in the Rice Consolidated Tournament, which is a very big deal for our girls’ soccer program. These ladies are getting better and better with each competition, and we look forward to seeing what they can do during district. Our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams kick off the regular season with their first home game on Monday, Jan. 27 against Bay City. The girls will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday night, our WHS basketball teams took on the Stafford Spartans at home. Our Lady Tigers defeated Stafford with a score of 56-31 and are now 5-2 in district, and 13-6 on the season. These talented ladies have been working hard and that has paid off for them so far in the first round of district play. Our Tigers fell to the Spartans with a score of 63-48 and are now 2-3 in district and 13-4 for the season.

On Friday, our basketball teams traveled to Needville to begin the second round of district, which brings a change for game times for our varsity teams.

Due to District 25-4A policy, the varsity teams will switch game times, which will put our Tigers playing the first game at 5:45 p.m., followed by the Lady Tigers at 7 p.m.

This method will be used for the remainder of the regular season.

Thursday afternoon, WHS tennis kicked off their spring season against Needville.

Our athletes had a great competition and we will update as soon as we get more detailed information from our tennis coaches.

On Friday, our swim team was in Victoria competing in the district meet. The first heat began at 1 p.m. and we are hoping to punch our ticket to the regional meet, which will take place next week at Don Cook Natatorium.

The spring season is quickly approaching and we have several opportunities to come watch your Tiger athletes in action. Hope to see you there!

Go Tigers!
