The Wharton Lady Tigers’ Courtney Coleman flexes her arm following a district victory in which she had a homer. The scoreboard shows the score WHS beat Royal by last Friday, April 5.

For the second time in District 25-4A play, the Wharton Lady Tigers defeated the Brookshire Royal Lady Falcons in convincing fashion.

Their 10-0 run-rule victory at home last Friday, April 5 gave the Lady Tigers a 5-4 record, good enough for fourth place in district.

Following Game 10 results, Needville was sitting atop the district standings with an 8-1 record, followed by second-place El Campo at 7-2 and Sealy 6-2 in third.

The Lady Tigers need to stay ahead of Fulshear (3-5), which trails them for fourth place. They met once before with WHS providing some home cooking in a 5-4 victory.

WHS came back from a district loss earlier in the week to Needville, 4-0.

In the Royal game, Courtney Coleman hit a two-run homer to left field to get WHS closer to the run-rule win. Chloe Villarreal followed with some determined base running as she made good on a swing that connected past the Royal right fielder.

Elayna Simper, who stole second base, scored the 10th run of the game to ensure the team of a victory.

Katelynn Schneider started the game as pitcher, with Villarreal in relied.

Individual stats for the game were not available.

WHS played Sealy in an away game on Tuesday, April 9.
