The Boling Lady Bulldogs had a lone powerlifter at the state meet in Corpus Christi, March 18.
Senior Peyton Wostarek had a combined total lift of 665 pounds that was good enough for 13th place out of 15 powerlifters in the 123-pound Class 3A weight class.
Wostarek had a squat of 240, a bench of 150, and a deadlift of 275 pounds. Her bench of 150 pounds tied her for the fifth most in her weight class.
She was one of 10 girls from Boling who made it to regionals, but she was the only competitor to advance winning a silver medal. At regionals, Wostarek had a combined lift of 680 pounds.
At regionals, Wostarek also had the Lady Bulldogs’ heaviest combined lift, regardless of weight class.
Outside of Boling, the only other school in Wharton County that had representation at the girls state powerlifting meet was Louise, who had eight girls competing.
Gutierrez at state
The Boling Bulldogs have a powerlifter moving on to the state lift Saturday at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
Junior Nick Gutierrez was the only powerlifter to advance finishing with a silver medal at regionals in Lumberton last Friday.
Gutierrez, with a combined lift of 925 pounds, finished in second place. However, the only lifter who beat him was from Jasper, a Class 4A school.
The Boling junior came within 25 pounds of winning first place outright.
