Tiger Fans!

Happy Friday, and welcome back! Hope everyone had a great Christmas break. Our boys and girls basketball programs are almost through the first round of district and are doing very well. Soccer has started their tournament season and are working hard to get ready for district play. Softball and baseball is right around the corner, and we are anxiously awaiting our brand new softball field to be completed. We had a lot going on those two weeks and we ended up with some exciting wins.

Our WHS boys’ basketball team played Galena Park on the Friday before the break and won, 60-44.

December 30-31, they participated in the Schulenburg Tournament and went undefeated to take first place. They defeated Sacred Heart 60-23, Bellville 62-37, and then knocked off Moulton for the championship game, 54-47. James Jones was awarded player of the game for the Bellville and Moulton games, scoring 17 points in each. Other high scorers for all games during the tournament were Fred Jones with a total of 41 points, Joerell Davis with a total of 26 points, and Roy Gentry with a total of 14.

Our WHS girls’ basketball team hosted a tournament over the break at Tiger Gym and went 3-0. They defeated Yoakum 46-34, Sam Rayburn 37-33, and Needville 65-41. Both basketball teams resumed district play on January 3 against Royal, and both were defeated by the Falcons. This week, they battled against Sealy at home and they boys won 72-40 and are now 12-2 on the season and 1-1 in district. Our girls won 36-32 and are now 11-5 on the season and 3-1 in district.

The next matchup for Tiger basketball will be on Tuesday at El Campo.

On January 2-3, our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams traveled to Gonzales and came home with some hardware.

Our boys defeated a very tough Floresville team and then also beat Gonzales. The championship game ended with a 2-1 score, and our Tigers took first place. The girls also placed in the tournament from their side, winning third place. They tied Yoakum 0-0, lost to Gonzales 1-0, and then defeated Poteet 4-0. This tournament win is a big thing for our girls program, who has struggled in the past few years. We are hopeful that this means more great things are to come from them the rest of the season.

Friday our boys’ soccer team traveled to the Huffman Tournament and we look forward to some good news from our Tigers.

Saturday morning our swim team travels to Victoria to participate in an invitational. The spring season is quickly approaching and we have several opportunities to come watch your Tigers athletes in action. Hope to see you there!

Go Tigers!
