The Wharton Lady Tigers dropped a three-set match to the Sealy Lady Tigers 25-7, 25-13, 25-12, last Friday, Sept. 25.
Sealy in all three sets, jumped out to big leads, overwhelming Wharton winning decisively.
The Lady Tigers’ start to district play has been tough playing Sealy and Bellville, two state-ranked teams, according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Wharton hasn’t won a set against either team, but the Lady Tigers have seen some signs of progress.
“They were two very tough teams,” Lady Tigers coach Erica Garza said. “(Against) Bellville we saw many positives. We came together as a team and demonstrated that in various rallies. I was very proud of their performance. The score did not reflect the efforts that were demonstrated on the court. At Sealy, we came out pretty flat and were not able to overcome it. This is what we must continue to work on, consistency.”
Despite starting district 0-2, El Campo and Navasota are only one game ahead of Wharton with 1-1 records.
The Lady Tigers will have a chance to make up some district ground Friday, Oct. 2 at home against the Brookshire Royal Lady Falcons (0-2).
