Looking to pass

The Navasota Rattlers had plenty to cheer about from throughout Rattler Stadium as the team earned a non-district victory over the Wharton Tigers in a season opener for both teams, Friday, Aug. 28. In the left photo is Raymond Hudson avoiding the grasp of a Navasota defender. WHS quarterback Sterling Harris is shown in the right getting set to pass.

The football fortunes for the Wharton Tigers and the East Bernard Brahmas were very different as both teams started their 2020 season.

Wharton lost a road game to the Navasota Rattlers, 35-13, while East Bernard defeated the Edna Cowboys, 49-20, at home. Both games were played Friday, Aug. 28.

The Tigers scored all their points in the second half after trailing 21-0. Keijon Waddell had a 4-yard run in the third quarter, kicker Josh Rivas booted the extra point. With nine seconds left, quarterback Sterling Harris threw a 41-yard pass to Erik Johnson.

The East Bernard Brahmas’ defense and special teams paved the way for the offense. EB had a field goal blocked after Edna couldn’t score inside the red zone on its second offensive drive. The next EB possession saw the Brahmas score on a pass play.

The Brahmas rolled.
