What is more American than apple pie or baseball, what about voting!

In Wharton County, it doesn’t appear so as 11.6 percent of registered voters have cast their early voting ballots.

Unlike the presidential election that will come in the fall, the local election between two Republican women – Cindy Hernandez and Sarah Hudgins – has remained respectable with no shots aimed at each other. Each candidate believes she is the best person to lead the WC Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office.

With Election Day next week, each candidate has done her part to get you to believe she is the right person to fill the role.

We thank these candidates for keeping their campaign clean.

Keep in mind that Democrats are also voting in the Joint Primary Runoff Election. Democratic voters are casting their ballots for U.S. senator and railroad commissioner. There have been 201 Democrats who have voted thus far. The rest are Republicans.

The WC Election Department tells us there have been 2,300 votes cast in eight days of early voting. No matter how you swing, vote on Election Day Tuesday, July 14.
