Maria Montalvo passed into the arms of the Lord on Jan. 25, 2021 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land. She was born Oct. 7, 1943 in Alvin to the late Camilio and Simona Gonzalez Garza.

Maria was a lifelong resident of Kendleton. She married the love of her life, Esequiel Perales Montalvo, on July 28, 1967 at Holy Cross Church in East Bernard. Maria loved gardening and playing puzzles but she absolutely loved DVD diving at Walmart and never missed an episode of her favorite show CSI! She was also a catechist at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for nine years.

Maria is survived by her children: Carolyn Gracia and her husband Cain of Houston, Cynthia LaLani and her husband Mike of Sugar Land, Sylvia Montalvo of Kendleton, Richard Allen Montalvo of Kendleton, and Jerry Lee Montalvo of Houston; her sister Lucy Reyes of Hungerford; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  

Maria is predeceased by her husband Esequiel, her parents Camilio and Simona Garza, and her brother Gilbert Garza.

A visitation was Friday, Jan. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home, 515 E. Boling Hwy. A rosary followed at 7 p.m. Maria’s funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Church in Wharton and interment to follow at San Francisco Cemetery in East Bernard.
