Susan Philbin passed away on Feb. 24, 2021 at her residence in Spring.  She was born Aug. 16, 1944 in Wharton to the late Eugene A. Philbin and Lorena (Rowan) Brock.

Susan was raised in the Tulsa, Okla. and Fort Worth areas and moved to Topeka, Kan. in 1972 where she resided until 2011 when she moved to Stockbridge, Maine.  After a few years in Stockbridge, she moved back to her home state of Texas and settled in Spring, north of the city of Houston.

Susan graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. She discovered her passion in the travel industry, finding great joy in helping dreams come true planning vacations of lifetime. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed swimming, hiking, yoga and travel. Susan loved her friends and animals. On the morning she passed, there were at least 50 or more Gold Finches in her yard eating from her bird feeders, almost as if they came to say thank you and goodbye.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather Lawrence Brock and brother Stephen H. Philbin.

Susan is survived by her stepsister Monet Brock, (CA); stepbrother Lawrence Brock, (AZ); cousins: Ed and Jennifer Pitts, (Houston), Jeanne Rowan, (Asheville, NC), Ford Rowan, (Annapolis, MD), and Suzanne Babcock, (Dallas); her chosen family: Eric Lugger, Eithne McKibbin, her deeply loved Asher and Beatrix McKibbin Lugger, (Spring), and Jessica Burlingame, (Stockbridge, MA).

Relatives and friends are invited to her graveside service on Thursday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at Wharton City Cemetery, Wharton.

In lieu of flowers, Susan requested you make a donation in her honor to Matthew’s Birthday Wish to help fight children’s hunger at (credit cards accepted).  This not for profit organization will also be creating a bird sanctuary, with a tribute to Susan in Spring Trails, very near Susan’s residence in Spring.  Or, you may wish to donate to the charity of your choice.
