New traffic signals

Texas Department of Transportation workers install new traffic signals on Thursday around Monterey Square in downtown Wharton. The new signals only have lights on three sides because of the one-way streets.

While I think the decision makers on these new lights had good intentions, I do not think they thoroughly thought this situation through. This solution is aimed at the few who drive through our town the wrong way while not considering those of us who traverse the streets around the courthouse and post office on a daily basis. The old lights were a great indicator for those pulling out onto the street from a parking lot whose line of sight for oncoming traffic is obstructed by vehicles parallel parked along the street as to whether or not one could expect that oncoming traffic should be stopped for the red light - and further - those of us who have to cross the street at the post office can no longer know whether cars stopped now have a green light. From my perspective - bring back the old lights, PLEASE !!
