The Wharton County Commissioners Court, Monday, approved a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. From left are commissioners Doug Mathews, Steven Goetsch, The Crisis Center Outreach Advocate Samantha Counts, Judge Phillip Spenrath, and commissioners Bud Graves, and Richard Zahn. In the past year, The Crisis Center of Matagorda and Wharton counties provided non-residential services to 741 adults and 102 children. It also provided shelter to 169 adults and 154 children. It amounts to 5,143 days of shelter provided this past year.

Matagorda and Wharton county residents are urged to participate in “Go Purple Day” by wearing purple to show support for survivors and victims of domestic violence.
