According to the Wharton Police Department’s Facebook page, Chief Terry Lynch is supporting the Houston Astros in their quest to advance to the 2019 World Series for the second time in three years.

Prior to their eventual American League Division Series win against the Tampa Bay Rays, Chief Lynch posted the following about the Astros: “By order of the chief: From this day forward, and throughout the rest of the 2019 Astros post season, Wharton police officers are authorized to wear Astros hats in uniform to support of our Houston Astros. Weather tip for tonight’s Game 5: Make sure to bundle up. There’s a ‘Cole Front’ coming through!”

Lynch was referring to Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole, who earned the Game 5 victory by a 6-1 score.

The Astros will begin the American League Championship Series Saturday at 7:08 p.m. at Minute Maid Park in Houston against the New York Yankees.

The winner of the best-of-seven series moves on to the World Series. If the Astros win, expect Wharton PD personnel to continue wearing Astros baseball caps showing support.
