A little more than a week after longtime Wharton County commissioner Chris King passed away, the Commissioners Court will be having a special session on personnel matters, according to an agenda, which was announced by the county Tuesday, July 30.

One of the items on the agenda for the Friday, Aug. 2 session beginning at 10 a.m. is to deliberate in closed session the commissioner precinct 2 vacancy.

According to the agenda, elected officials, which includes Judge Phillip Spenrath,  and commissioners Doug Mathews (Pct. 4) Steven Goetsch (Pct. 3), and Richard Zahn (Pct. 1), will reconvene in open session and consider taking action on personnel matters.

King, 65, was elected in 2018 after winning the Republican Primary in March and went unopposed in the General Election in November. He was sworn into office on Jan. 1. His term expires in four years.
