This week, the Boling Municipal Water District announced that it will be holding its first ever board of directors election later this year.

The election for Boling area residents is Saturday, May 2.

According to the Boling MWD, the positions that are up for election are Position 2 and Position 4.  This election will be a joint election with Wharton County, said Boling MWD Financial Officer Cathy Ezell.

“It was decided that since the district board members serve a four-year term and those terms are required to be staggered that in 2020 Positions 2 and 4 would be up for election and Positions 1, 3, and 5 would be up for election in 2022,” Ezell said.

Presently, the Boling MWD board is made up of President Brett Glenn, Secretary James Ezell, and board members Theodoro Rangel, and Bobby Charles

Qualified residents who reside in the district can pick up an application at the Boling MWD office, located at 7218 FM 442, in Boling between Wednesday, Jan. 15 through Friday, Feb. 14.

Office hours are Monday and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Ezell said the office will be open until 5 p.m. the last day to accept applications.

Troubled history

Jane Holmes, who was Boling MWD clerk for a short time, passed away on April 20, 2019. In a 2018 interview, she said the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) had requested an audit several times in the past, but Boling MWD never produced one.

Holmes said sometime later the Boling MWD was then ordered by the Attorney General of Texas (Ken Paxton) to produce one for the years 2011 to 2016.

In the past, Boling MWD  was led by secretary Susan Svec (40 years) and general manager James Andersen (30 years). They were no longer associated with the organization, Holmes said.

In 2018, the Boling MWD was audited for the first time since 2010, Holmes said. Cathy Ezell was hired to help in that process and has stayed on.
