Cindy Hernandez has filed to be on the Republican Primary ballot for Wharton County Tax Assessor-Collector position, she said in a press release.

Hernandez has worked 27 years, 20 of those spend in the Wharton County tax office where she has served as the chief deputy for three years.

The experience, Hernandez said, has provided her with an extensive set of skills and knowledge of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and Texas Property Tax Code that can be applied to the position.

Hernandez is a member of the Tax Assessor Collectors Association and has certifications in assessment and collections, truth and taxation. She is working toward a professional collector certification.

In the press release, Hernandez said she has been a fixture in Wharton County and now wants to serve her constituents in an elected capacity.

“I will bring leadership, attention to detail, bilingual skills and communication experience to the office if given the opportunity to service as tax assessor,” Hernandez said.

She serves as a member of the Wharton County Economic Development Corp. Advisory Board, a member of the Medical and Safety Committee of Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, a former county elections volunteer, and a former member and president of the Wharton High School Performing Arts Booster Club.
