Wheat has been an economic crop to grow in WC

EGYPT — Once the price producers receive for wheat increases making the crop profitable to grow, Wharton County may see amber waves of grain again like in years past.

The fifth wheat variety trial, the most recent of its kind in the county, was done at Krenek Seed near Egypt in April. It proved once again that certain spring wheat varieties can thrive in South Texas soils and climate better than winter wheat.
