The Wharton Police Department announced on Sept. 1 that an abandoned vehicle was located by a passerby on Sept 1. It was a Kia Rio vehicle that was one mile north of FM 102 on the southbound lanes 1 mi. north of Glen Flora.

WPD Det. Ariel Soltura said following an investigation, it was determined the incident to be an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against the vehicle’s driver, Marvin Medrano, 41, of Houston. “The alleged incident is believed to have occurred on or about August 31 between 8 and 9 p.m.,” Soltura told the Journal-Spectator. “Mr. Medrano was found safe in Rosenberg on September 1, and with his cooperation, Wharton Police Department continues to investigate the case.”

Soltura added the alleged assault may have originated in Houston or it could be related to other parties in Victoria, and as such, police do not believe that any of our local residents should feel personal concern related to this incident while traveling on US 59/I-69.
