The Wharton Independent School District this month began offering the community access to the Eddie Joseph Memorial Stadium track for exercising.

Track hours have been Monday through Friday 6-8 a.m. and 5-7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 7-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.

However, due to daylight savings time, the afternoon track hours are changing to 5-6 p.m.

This change is due to a lack of lighting and will begin with daylight savings, according to Wharton ISD.

WISD reminds adults and youth who use the track that no one is allowed on the bleachers or the field.

Track rules are as follows:

• no skateboards or rollerblades;

• no bicycles or hover-boards;

• no climbing on fences;

• no pets;

• no personal trainer conducting individual/group workouts;

• no food or drinks; and

• no loitering.

The track is closed when the stadium is in use, such as Wharton ISD football and/or soccer games.

“When construction begins on the athletic locker rooms and field event areas, the track will be closed during the entire time of construction,” WISD said on its Facebook page. “The gates will be locked and there will be no public access. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.”

No date was shared regarding when the construction would begin.
