Lobpries helps Aggies to finals
Contributing solid, and sometimes outstanding, play to the team effort, Wharton's Jami Lobpries helped boost the Texas A&M Aggies into the finals of the NCAA Softball World Series being played at ASA Hall of Fame Field in Oklahoma City.
In her best offensive performance of this year's National Championship Tournament, the senior centerfielder had a hand in both runs of the Aggies' 2-1 win over Louisiana Lafayette.
In the fourth inning of the game, Lobpries lofted a sacrifice fly to left field scoring third baseman Jamie Hinshaw on the play. In the seventh, she led off the inning with a single, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. She then scored on an infield single by first baseman Rhiannon Kliesing.
The Aggies advanced to the finals against ASU by eliminating the tournament's top seed, the University of Florida. A&M dropped an afternoon game to UF by a 6-1 margin, but then bounced back that evening to edge the Gators 1-0 in extra innings.
In the afternoon loss, Lobpries walked in three plate appearances. In the victory, she was 1-3 with a walk. In addition to generating offense, Lobpries has played errorless ball and produced some ESPN highlight catches in centerfield.
With the win over Florida, A&M set the team's single-season win record (57) which was previously held by the 1987 and 1994 teams. In addition, it allowed the Aggies to become the first Big 12 team to reach the championship series since Oklahoma won the title in 2000.
