Jessie Shavers

Funeral services for Jessie Shavers Jr., 64, of East Bernard, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton with Rev. Richard Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Mr. Shavers was born Dec. 30, 1943, in East Bernard to Jessie and Leona Johnson Shavers Sr.

He was a graduate of Powell Point High School and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for John Deere. Mr. Shavers was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include wife, Shirley Rae Shavers of East Bernard; sons, Kenneth and Terance Shavers, both of Houston, Jessie Shavers III of Needville and Dexter Shavers of Guy; daughter, Jessica Rivers of Houston; brothers, Henry Shavers of Houston, Charles Shavers of Austin and Willie Shavers of Needville; sisters, Helen Shavers of East Bernard and Jessie Clemons of Los Angeles, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
