Hoskins, Mathews honored at baby showers

A baby shower was held honoring Liz Locke Hoskins who is expecting her first baby a daughter, Piper, with husband Tito Hoskins in November. Proud grandparents are Coleman and Regina Locke. The room was beautifully decorated with pink colors and Piper's gifts were everywhere. Some of the guests were Brandy and Kye Yackel, Sarah Goudeau, Beverly Koonce, Stacey Forgason, looking beautiful was the matron of the Locke clan, Eleanor Locke. Also there were Lynn Bates, Joan Andel, Laura Field, sister of the future mother who flew from Wellington, Colo., on Monday. She has the look of happiness and looks great. Other guests were Denise Francoeur, back from her vacation in France, Ruby Hawes, another world traveler who also was on a trip with husband Steve Hawes in Punta del Este, Ecuador and Argentina.

With them was Ruby's stunning daughter Dana Holland. Dana is one of my favorites and of course Liz. They worked as R.N.s at Gulf Coast Emergency Room. Then, came Tito and each one took different directions, Dana is now a nurse at Sugar Land Memorial and Liz married Tito and he took her to Beeville. Other guests were Kristen Brandt, Lauryn Locke, Morrow Lou Sims, who recently underwent surgery at Methodist which lasted 12 hours.

More guests were Billye Sweeney, Frances Cullers, Tricia Vasut, Vennie Fleck, Barbara Dowell and me.

Hostessing the shower were Andrea Jurica, Lee Ann Kulka, Dianne Jurica, Flossy Forgason, Sugie Sartwelle, Lavinia Owen, Wanda Bonnot with baby Jack Bonnot, Laura Locke Field, Gayle Locke DeBerry of Austin, Melissa Viktorin, Dana Holland, Jamie Gressett, Salina Locke and baby Lauryn Locke. The hostesses each got a nice gift from Liz. Other guests were Lori Hilliard, Laurie Bonnot, Janice Harris, Hollis Yackel and Jama Britton, whom I met on my way out. Piper received beautiful and unique gifts, I am sure they had to get a couple of suburbans in order to move all the gifts home. Refreshments were fresh kolaches, cheeses, cookies, cake and an assortment of finger foods. There was plenty to munch on, lots of gifts to open and nice visiting with everyone.

I don't want to leave out a very special lady at the Hoskins shower. Tito's mother Carol Hoskins was here with her two daughters.

Another beautiful young lady was honored with a baby shower on Sept. 20. The shower was hosted by Helen Kerlick at Bistro 829 in Katy. Shaye Kubesh Mathews is expecting the first baby for the Mathews. Jason Miller, chef/owner, created his gourmet party treats and canapes. A raspberry punch and deluxe white cake with raspberry filling was served to 18 guests/ friends from the Katy area. In addition to the honoree and hostess were grandmother to be Donna Kubesch, Marjorie Sklar and Ann Soderstrom of Wharton, Shannon Araya, Shaye's sister from Katy. Also assisting with the shower was Crystal Paisley of Wharton.

Linda Frazier Ingram is leaving Wharton moving to Mc- Donough, Ga. Her last day at the Prosperity Bank was yesterday after 27 years. She started when it was Wharton Bank and Trust. Linda's daughter is moving to Kuwait with her job, she is a senior budget analyst with the government and they estimate she will be gone from 1 to 2 years. Linda will stay with her grandchildren ages 13 and 16. The children's dad is in the service.

The other day I was at CVS and saw a picture of a favorite employee, Joe Nguyen. He was so polite and helpful like few I've had before. I liked him so much that when I came home I told J.B. about him and told Joe that I wanted to adopt him. This young man was so nice that in this day and age you don't find them often, I even told his supervisor. Three days ago I learned that 19-year-old Joe was killed in a car accident Sept. 1. He was attending college and working. He lived and commuted from Palacios. Two young cousins were riding in the car with him. One was in a coma, that's all I heard. I am sure many of you saw Joe, he worked in the photo department.

Let us continue to pray for all the people affected by Hurricane Ike and do whatever we can to help them.
