Brahmas score twice against Tribe
Long pleased with team's effort in first scrimmage

LONG
East Bernard football coach Jerry Long was pleased with his team's scrimmage on Saturday morning against Ganado.

"It was a better first scrimmage than we had last year," said Long. "The returners and experience that we had helped."

The Brahmas picked up two touchdowns and shut down the Indian offense.

Lance Crump scored on a long run, and quarterback Matthew Stelzel connected with Chris Plunkett on a scoring strike.

"We scored twice and were able to move the football," said Long. "We've got a long way go in terms of execution and things like that."

Long was pleased with his underclassmen's efforts.

"They are playing hard," said Long.

Long singled out Stelzel along with linebacker Gabe Segrest as standouts.

EB hosts Concordia Lutheran in a Friday night scrimmage with the junior varsity starting at 5:30 p.m.

"We just have to get better at what we're doing," said Long. "We won't be adding anything from what we've done last week."

EB crank up their season on Aug. 29 at Class 3A Palacios.

The Brahmas first home game is Sept. 5 against Houston Christian.
