Fred Hobbins

Funeral services for Frederick "Fred" Harvey Hobbins Jr., 90, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, at Wharton Funeral Home with Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton Cemetery.

Mr. Hobbins died June 18, 2008 in a Wharton nursing home following an extended illness. He was born in Midill, Okla., on Feb. 7, 1918, the son of the late Frederick Harvey Hobbins Sr. and Lela Donihoo Hobbins.

He was a longtime resident of Wharton and a member of Abell Street Church of Christ. Mr. Hobbins was a graduate of Boling High School. He married Marian Bertha Brown on June 18, 1939 in Newgulf.

He worked with the Hughes Tool Company for 41 years until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Hobbins was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Steve Hobbins.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Hobbins of Wharton; daughters, Sandra Armer of Stafford and Beverly Gilbert of Houston; sisters, Ethel Horvath of Pledger, Ruth Loesch of Lufkin and Bernice Hahn of Brenham; four grandsons and four great grandchildren also survive.
