Graduations, weddings fill many activity calendars this season

Was another special day that many couples chose to marry that special person. Graduation parties were also held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. What a busy time.

The wedding ceremony uniting Stacy Rachelle Sulak and Clay Foster Hudgins was held on Saturday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis. The Holy Mass and the Rite of Marriage was celebrated by Rev. Richard Johnson and Rev. Henry Rachunek.

Following the wedding ceremony a reception, dinner and dance was held at Riverside Hall in East Bernard that had been transformed with flowers. The bride and groom cakes were placed in the center. Individual tables and chairs were covered in white silk cotton. The meal was catered and the reception featured fabulous music. Among the guests we enjoyed visiting with included Tynia and Karl King of Wallis and their daughter Elyssa, Theresa and Allan Priem, Dr. James and Henriette Jalowy, David and Barbara Hubenak, Alfred and Shirley Minks, Charlie and Agnes Minks, Larry and Carolyn Minks, Liz and Phillip Stelzel, Magaly Gutierrez (a young lady from Leon, Nicaragua, who is here for a few weeks), David Domsch of San Antonio, Mary Ann and John Kubesh, Alvin Marek, George and Mary Helen Guttenberger, Pat and Geneva Viaclovsky, Joe Hudgins with grandaughter Jodie Hutchinson her baby 2-month-old Bradley Hutchinson, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hajovsky of Tavener, Bubba Hudgins, Bob and Vanessa Hudgins, Tom Hudgins, Bill Ansley, Regina Locke holding the youngest of the Locke clan Lauryn Locke, her mommy Salina and father John Coleman Locke who is on crutches.

A few days after Lauryn was born, he was kicked by a cow and suffered a couple of fractures to a leg. Salina had to care for two instead of one baby. They are doing well. They had a couple of young Australian guests, Chris and Dougal, I couldn't get their last names, they are staying in Hungerford.

Other guests were Larry and Cathy Sciba and Larry and Diane Kalina.

On Friday we enjoyed a meal of chicken spaghetti at Nancy and Kerry's home. After dinner we went to Boling for the graduation exercises of Boling High School where grandaughter

Camille Johse received her high school diploma along with 50 other graduates. The program was very nice and moved rapidly. Camille will be attending WCJC. Congratulations to all the graduates.

Lauren Mach daughter of Randy and Brenda Mach graduated from El Campo High School. She will be attending WCJC and Texas A&M. Congratulations!

On Sunday we went to Ana and Brad Macha's residence in Lake Nett for the graduation party of their son Chris Smith from Brazos High School in Wallis.

A delicious meal of fried chicken, with all the trimmings was served to the guests. Guests included Michael and Wanda Castleberry, Chris's grandmother Maria Ugarte and her son Peter Ugarte, Jerome and Janie Macha, Brad's parents of Beasley who celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Melissa Macha, Michele and Herman Macha, Tim and Terry Macha, Alex and Nikki Macha, Mark and Berna Pilcik and Neal, Mathew Kulhanek, Terry and Charlotte Williams and Terralyn, Judy Zapalac, Allen and Samantha Zapalac, Cameron Macha, J.R. and Chris Smith, Jessica Barnett, J.B. and me. Guests kept coming in all the time. We sat outside under some shady trees with a beautiful breeze blowing. We enjoyed a good time visiting for a long time after dinner. Refreshments, cake and cookies were served for dessert. Chris and Ana were the perfect hosts. Chris will be attending WCJC.

You're invited to attend our ground breaking ceremony at 11 a.m. next Tuesday for Wharton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 1220 Sunny Lane.

Enjoy refreshments with community leaders and our team of professionals. It is an exciting time for Wharton, our residents, families and staff. Hope to see you there!

Monday the St. Bernadette Court No. 1108 Catholic Daughters of the Americas in East Bernard will have installation of officers.

Mass is at 7 p.m. in the church. Meeting and appreciation banquet is at 8 p.m. at Holy Cross meeting room.

Happy birthday today to Bill Lins, Jordan Fortenberry and Casey Cockerham. During the week celebrating are Faye Evans, Kim Howell, Karen Munoz, Haylee Koonce, Megan Peikert, Alvin Schultz, Trace Heimann, Karl Vasut, Lexi Evans-Orea, Jenna Kettler, Rev. Donald Ruppert, Braden Faas, Carrie Taylor, Cynthia Tobola, Curtis Wilkins, Clara Heintschel, Esther Reding, Jim Cody, Jordan Calhoun, Bill Lawson, Julia Lewis and Phil Hart.

Happy anniversary to Bobbie and James Hollis, Laura and Tony Martin, Jane and Ken Pendray, Lowe and Violet Freitag, Jeff and Kelly Rainer, Mike and Laurie- Beth Speck, Calvin and Mary Hohensee, Sylvan and Betty Miori, Joey and Elisha Koenig, Don and Merri Hillis, Dennis and Jana Rachunek, Stuart and Christi Taylor, Gus and Irene Mullins.

KCs having birthdays this week are Frank Rachunek, Michael Stolle, Daniel Flores and Edwin Bucek.

A very happy celebration and a happier Flag Day today. This great country also celebrates Father's Day. With summer here it is time for fun. If you have a living father, tell him you love him, just a simple phone call will do.

But tell him so. If he has left us, like mine has, I will remember him with prayers and thank God for his life. Have fun this day.

Don't forget that today is the Kolache-Klobase Festival in East Bernard from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $7 per person. Children 12 and under free.

Under the pavillion there will be water-fan cooled comfort. Indoor entertainment is at the Riverside Hall.

The Presbyterian Women hosted a nice well-attended miscellaneous bridal shower for Laura Wind and Stormy Starks on Saturday.

Mary Mahlmann will be leaving to San Jose, Calif., to attend an assembly. They are planning on driving. We wish them a safe trip.

Sara Freudensprung obtained a bachelor of arts degree in architecture from Rice University.

Weston Rouse got a bachelor of science in agricultural communication degree from Texas Tech and graduated magna cum laude.

Alise Priesmeyer, daughter of Harry and Tina Priesmeyer starts her new job as a radiation therapist in Lufkin on June 30.

The annual Memorial Day gathering of Abell Street Church of Christ members gathered at the home of Harry and Sarah Goudeau.

They gathered at 11 a.m. with a meal served at noon. The meat was furnished by the Goudeaus. Everybody brought their favorite dish.

The American Legionaires met on June 3 with an spaghetti dinner, green salad and cake. With great regrets and the price of food, they raised the price of dinner to $5.

The department convention will be June 25 through June 29 in Corpus Christi. Any member wishing to participate please call Jim May as soon as possible.
