Entries being taken for Freedom Fest activities

The time for signing up for some of the activities at this year's Wharton County Freedom Fest is rapidly running out based on entry form deadlines.

This year's festival is planned for the final Friday and Saturday of the month, June 27-28, with various activities planned for the courthouse square and Riverfront Park as well as other locations around town.

Among the events with registration deadline is the BBQ Cook-Off. The entry fee is $75 and entries must be received by Friday, June 20.

The cook-off will be held in the park with check-in on Friday from noon to 7 p.m. Judging is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The cookers will be competing for this year's first place $500 cash prize with trophies for second and third place.

Cook-off spaces are 30-feet-by35-feet and available on a first come, first serve basis. For additional information, call 532-1862.

Vendor booths can also currently be reserved and must be paid in full by Friday, June 20. Friday locations are in the park with Saturday's locations on the square.

Spaces are 10-foot-by-12-foot and priced at $75 for one day and $125 for both. For information, call 532- 1862.

Another fun event at this year's festival will be the Car and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, June 28. Check-in is from 9 a.m. to noon with awards presented at 3 p.m. in Riverfront Park. The entry fee is $20 with the first 50 receiving T-shirts and goody bags.
