Repka selected MVP
Seven players make all tournament team

AUSTIN - No one was surprised when the public address announcer in the press box at the Class 2A UIL State Softball Tournament at McComb's Field Saturday afternoon called the name of East Bernard pitcher Courtney Repka as the Tournament Most Valuable Player.

The Brahmarettes had beaten Coahoma 1-0 just minutes earlier for the championship.

The junior struck out 12 batters in a Thursday's 2-1 semifinal win over Harmony, giving up only an infield hit.

She struck out 13 in Saturday's win and gave up a single in the seventh inning.

Repka's final strike out in Thursday's game was her 1,000th of her career

The remainder of the all-tournament team was released on Sunday afternoon and six additional Brahmarettes were selected.

Sophomore Brittney Wilcox made it at first base.

She was two for three in Thursday's games and made several big defensive plays.

Senior Laura Kubes was chosen at second base. She only had one hit but played well on defense.

She was joined by senior third baseman Samantha Wasek and senior shortstop Haley Dawson.

Dawson scored the Brahmarettes lone run on Saturday. She had a single and scored the East Bernard's tying run in the first game. She also made all tournament team

several big defensive gems.

Wasek singled home the tying run on Thursday as she went two for four at the plate.

Sophomores Cameron Kieler and Anna Giannetti were named as outfielders.

Kieler was one for three against Harmony and two for three against Coahoma. She added a great catch in center field of a fly ball in Thursday's game.

Giannetti had two hits against Harmony and played heads up defense

Despite, scoring a run and adding a single, EB junior catcher Liz Reyes was not selected.

She threw out a runner trying to steal and caught a couple of foul pops,

Senior Krista Kerby from Coahoma was selected as an outfielder and junior Nikki Jones of S&S Consolidated made it as a catcher.
