Never forget the sacrifice of soldiers

Letter to the Editor:

As a veteran, I feel obligated to those who have gone to graves in their flag-draped caskets.

Some people may feel that in time one should let the past alone. I live because I was fortunate and I cannot forget those who would now be in their sixties with grandkids of their own. I cannot forget:

• Ssg. Pruden (KIA November 1969), lies in the National Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn.;

• 2nd Lt. Sharon Lane (KIA June 1969), a nurse, was tending to Vietnamese kids when killed by a rocket attack. Buried in Canton, Ohio.

• Sgt. E5 "Perfect" Cernel (KIA March 1970), died in an ambush. Lies at a Carolina cemetery.

• Spc 4 "Scotty" Randolf- Scott (KIA March 1970), died in an ambush.

The last two had no parents that I knew of. Scotty was raised by his granny; Perfect, by his uncle.

Sharon's mom still lives. Her dad passed away from grief.

Never have gone to St. Paul yet. Many have passed on, results of the effects of that war.

Whether the public remembers all who lie in graves throughout our country and abroad, I will continue to do my duty to them, to remember and remind all, that this holiday (Memorial Day) has been paid for with "Blood and Guts."
