WHAT: _Region IV Class 2A _Softball Championships WHO: East Bernard Brahmarettes _ (29-4-1) _vs. _ Poth Pirettes (31-4) WHEN-WHERE: Game 1 - 7 p.m. Friday at St Joseph O'Connor Athletic Complex in Victoria. Game 2 - 5 p.m. Saturday. Game 3, if _necessary, _at _7:30 _p.m. Saturday ____________________________

LAST WEEK: East Bernard beat Yorktown in a regional quarterfinal series last week at the Shiner Starplex. The Brahmarettes lost Thursday's first game 3-2 and won Friday's games by identical 1-0 scores. Poth beat Danbury 8-1 last Thursday. The Lady Panthers beat the Pirettes 3-0 in _S_aturday's first _game _but _Poth won _the _second game 5-1.

HOW THEY GOT HERE: East Bernard beat Industrial 8-0 in a bidistrict playoff game and then swept No. 1 ranked Franklin by 18-2 and 10-3 scores in the area round. Poth, the 29-2A champion, had a first round bye. The Pirettes then beat Refugio in two games by 12-0 and 10-1 scores in an area round series. In the quaterfinal, Poth took two of three games from George West, losing the first game 3-2 and winning the _n_ext two _by 4-2 and _4-0 _scores.

AT STAKE: The series winner advances to UIL State Softball Tournament next week at McCoombs Field on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

ABOUT THE BRAHMARETTES East Bernard, under 2nd year coach Amy Bush, is ranked 8th. The Brahmarettes lost to eventual champion Troy in last year's regional quarterfinal series. Troy then beat Poth for the Region IV championship The Brahmarettes are led by pitcher Courtney Repka who has 370 strikeouts on the season, Liz Reyes, Haley Dawson, Cameron Kieler, Samantha Wasek, Laura Kubes, Paula Lopez, Anna Giannetti, Brittney Wilcox, Cameron Kieler, Courtney Hollinger, Trisha _Polak _and courtsey _runner Ashley Miculka.

ABOUT THE PIRETTES: Poth, under coach Jerry Bonewald, is ranked No. 1 in the Class 2A poll. The Pirettes are led by pitcher Brooke Boening, Courtney Laskowski, Dee Dee Faschingbauer, Kelly Boening, Rebecca Cavazos, Brenda Ramirez, Rhealyn Yanta and Erica _M_oczygemba.

EXTRA NOTE: Poth beat East Bernard 2-1 in 10 innings via the

_International _tie _breaker rule _at the Flatonia Tournament _back _on March _7.

STADIUM DIRECTIONS: Drive into Victoria on 59 Business which turns into Rio Grande Street. You will pass The Corral Restaurant on your right. Keep driving until you reach Navarro street and make a right. Keep on driving for awhile.Eventually, you will notice a car dealership on your left called Atzenhoffer. On your right, is Tejas Restaurant and a McDonald's Restaurant. The softball complex is behind those two restaurants. Make a right hand turn off Navarro by the McDonald's and you _should _shortly see _the _softball complex. .

OTHER REGIONAL SERIES: Stinnett plays Hawley for the Region championship. S&S Consolidated plays Aubrey for the Region II crown and _Harmony _plays Wooden _for the Region III Championship.
