Ira Smith

Funeral services for Ira Smith Jr., 85, of Spanish Camp, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. C.E. McWashington officiating.

Burial will follow in Camp Zion Cemetery. Wake services will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Smith died May 18, 2008 at Michael E. Debakey VA Memorial Center in Houston. He was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Wharton to Ira and Etta James Groce Smith Sr.

Survivors include wife, Aline Farrington Smith of Spanish Camp; sons, Ira Smith III of Houston and Charles Douglas of Glen Flora and Charles D. Smith of Rosenberg; daughters, Chevella Smith, Joyce Gaines and Eddie Mae Banks, all of Houston, and Ruthie Gary of Texas City; sister, Regnia Lee of Glen Flora; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
