Sophie Scholz Sophie Ann Scholz, age 96, of Wharton, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Garwood. She was born on Aug. 23, 1911 in Wallis, daughter of the late John Urban and Julia Zahradnik Urban. Ms. Scholz was reared in the East Bernard area and attended school there. She was married to Emil Steve Scholz on July 1, 1930 in East Bernard. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1970. Ms. Scholz was a homemaker and worked for Gulf Coast Medical Center in the cafeteria in Wharton for more than 13 years. She enjoyed her garden and flowers, and cooking for friends and family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her step-father, Frank Ptacek, son, Emil Charles Scholz; granddaughters, Peggy Ann and Patricia Ann Waligura; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Alvin Venglar, Mike Waligura, Agnes and Victor Svoboda and Bennie Svoboda; sisters, Josephine Vacek, Frances Zbranek and Rosie Zbranek; and brothers, John Urban and Frank Ptacek. Visitation was held Tuesday evening May 20, 2008, with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. from the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Dominic Antwi Boasiako and Rev. Anthony Boateng-Mensa officiating. Interment follows in Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard. Pallbearers are Michael Waligura, James Macek, Victor Svoboda, Benjamin Svoboda, Richard Waligura and Joe Vengl ar. . Survivors include her daughters, Juanita Waligura of Garwood and Emilia Svoboda of East Bernard; sisters, Julia Bartos, Annie Maly, Barbara Brenek and Mary Townsend; 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 20 great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home. |
