John Rabius

John Herman Rabius was born March 17, 1918 in East Bernard to parents Henry and Sophia Redehase Rabius. He passed away Friday, May 16, 2008 at his home in East Bernard at the age of 90 years and 2 months.

He had five sisters and one brother. He is survived by two sisters, Anita Holder of Fort Worth and Wilhelmina Semora of Eagle Lake; also by his three sons, David Rabius of East Bernard and special friend, Bonnie Vasbinder, Johnny Rabius of East Bernard and wife, Michelle, Raymond Rabius of East Bernard and wife, Jo Marie; one daughter, Evelyn Carroll of Wharton and husband, Donnie; 13 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren; close nephews, Carl Backhus of East Bernard and Anton Jaloway of East Bernard; and numerous close and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Sophia Rabius; brother, Edwin W. Rabius; sisters, Ella Ludwig, Lilly Haverda and Emma Odell; and wives, Nola Mae Rabius and Della Rabius.

He attended Lutheran Church School in Wallis and was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wallis. At the time of his death he was the oldest member of the congregation. He also was a farmer and rancher all of his life.

One of his most favorite pastimes was playing dominoes and listening to polka music. He also enjoyed attending to his cattle and checking on them daily.

The family, on behalf of John Herman Rabius, would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Larry Penick for his valued friendship and the extraordinary care he bestowed upon John Herman Rabius in the short time they have known each other.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wallis. Burial was at Wallis City Cementary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 218 W. Third St., Wallis, TX 77485.
