EC man arrested for alleged knife attack An El Campo man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman following a chase down residential roads and through lawns that involved at least four police officers and a sheriff's deputy. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Monday and began when officers went to a house on 612 Main to investigate an assault on a woman who reportedly had a baby in her arms when she was knifed. "She refused medical treatment," El Campo Police Chief Jim Elliott said. "He cut her twice with a pocketknife with an approximately 3-inch blade. The child was not injured." The suspect, Gerardo Alejo, 24, of 306 Lincoln had fled the scene and was chased down Main, over to Shropshire, East West and down an alley between Lundy and Mayfield. The pursuit involved officers in patrol vehicles and on foot. Alejo finally was nabbed in the 600 block of East West. He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, abandoning/endangering a child in imminent danger of bodily injury and evading arrest or detention, on an Austin Pardon and Parole Board warrant for parole violation, on warrants for no insurance and running a stop sign and on two warrants for no driver's license. He was held at Wharton County Jail on $32,000 bond as of noon Monday, May 19. |
