SHINER - East Bernard's softball team needed two wins over Yorktown Friday night at the Shiner Starplex to advance in the Class 2A playoffs.

Yorktown rallied from a 2-0, two-out seventh inning deficit to beat East Bernard 3-2 in Thursday's first game of the Region IV semifinal series.

"We have to decide if we want to go home," said EB coach Amy Bush after the game

EB pitcher Courtney Repka fanned Kymber Blaschke to start the inning. It was her 15th of the game.

Claire Schendel reached on a bloop single to right field and scored on a double to the wall by Dannielle Serrano.

Katie Niemeier followed with an RBI single to tie the score and went to second on a throwing error.

Casey Brysch reached on a fielding error and Niemeier went to third. Niemeier scored when a ground ball by Kaley Chavez was misplayed.

Repka struck out Katy Rodriguez to end the inning.

East Bernard threatened in the bottom of the inning and left runners at first and third.

Paula Lopez reached on an error and went to second on a wild pitch. After Brittney Wilcox walked, Laura Kubes struck out.

Anna Giannetti hit a grounder to short and Wilcox was forced out at second on a questionable call.

Lopez went to third on the force play. The game ended when Reyes popped out to Jade Stock in the circle.

"They (Yorktown) exposed us and we had a bad inning," said Bush

Yorktown finished with five hits in the game while East Bernard batters could muster only one and that came on a two-out single by Giannetti in the third.

"We did not hit the ball well enough to win tonight," said Bush.

Stock struck out seven straight East Bernard batters before Giannetti's hit.

The Brahmarettes scored two unearned runs in the fifth to build their 2-0 lead.

Amber Kieler led off with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lopez.

After Wilcox walked, Kubes grounded out to second. A ground ball by Giannetti was misplayed and Lopez and Wilcox came around to score.

Repka had gotten out of a jam earlier in the game when Rodriguez doubled to the wall to lead off the fourth and went to third on a passed ball.

After Stark struck out, Blaschke was hit by a pitch. Repka battled back to strike out Schendel and Serrano.

In the top of the bracket, Poth beat Danbury 8-1 in their first game.

The Pirettes and Lady Panthers played again Friday night. If Danbury won they would play again today in Weimar.

In Class 3A, Needville played Waco Robinson in a one game, regional semifinal playoff on the campus of A&M Consolidated in College Station.
