Nichols reopens business at new location, Lunas visit Egypt

Susana Nichols has reopened NoNam to the community with a new makeover and a new address. She hosted the Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting ceremony on May 7. Chamber members and friends were present as she unveiled spring and summer new treasures.

Her daughter Leslie also joined in doing the honors with friend Judy Jarvela. Some of those attending were Jeanie Merka, Pat Miculka, Ricki Johansen, Ruby Nuspliger, Lisa Cokins, Karen Novosad, Mary Nell Wiley, Billie Jones, Cheryl Roach, Ron Sanders and many more.

Izzy and Kathy Smolik had recent houseguest, Ed and Kathy Koehl of Oklahoma City. Kathy and I tried to visit during the 50th anniversary of

Bennie and Valeria Hundl, but it was impossible.

When they come to Texas we always have a good visit, but not this time. Ed and Kathy's daughter Laurie Grainger was in Switzerland last week on business.

Hopefully the Koehls and Laurie and her son Dawson will be coming to Texas during the summer months.

Wharton always welcomes them with open arms.

Had a nice chat with Susie Luna the other day. She and her two children Rudy Luna

Jr. and Rita Ann Luna spent 10 days in Egypt, visited the pyramids and other interesting points in the country. They had a beautiful trip.

Another friend who travels all over the world is Donna Mikeska and her husband Gerry. They are either on an African Safari or visiting some other exotic land.

This time the couple was in South America. They spent one week in Ecuador and one week in the Galapagos Islands, which Donna describes as absolutely beautiful. Donna is in public relations and marketing.

Laurie Bonnot was held last Saturday at the residence of Cheri and Eric Muegge. Hostessing and members of the welcoming committee were: Lauren Bonnot, Cheri Muegge, Edy Menefee, Jan Ondrias, Sheryl Rhodes, Venetia Schiller, Regina Locke, Amanda Heimann, Diana Cosper and Nancy Bucek. Forty guests came to the shower.

The mommy and daddy received some beautiful gifts personalized by Regina Locke. The proud grandmas, Wanda Bonnot and Kay Kunkel were special guests.

Cheri and the hostesses did a beautiful job. We don't want to leave out the daddy-to-be, Clayton Bonnot, and the grandfathers Dr. Carlos Bonnot and Johnnie Kunkel, who will become a grandfather for the first time. This is also the first grandson to carry the Bonnot name.

Congratulations to two mothers who were recognized last Saturday during Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Virginia Brewster as the oldest present during services and the mother with the youngest child in church was Amy Stewart. She had her three children with her.

The youngest was Joseph who is 18-months-old. They were presented with a corsage each by Father Brian Heyer, parochial vicar. At the end of Mass they received a beautiful blessed gold rosary.

Mike and Nora Koch, Dr. Preston Copeland and Corinne Copeland were in Lubbock last weekend attending the graduation ceremony of their son Sam Copeland at Texas Tech University.

Alec and Etta Mayfield who have a new great-grandson.

Jamie and B.J. Eisenhart are the proud parents. They named him Callen James. He weighed 7 lbs., 13 ozs. Alec recently had surgery.

Temple and Beverly Koonce have a new graduate in the family. Their son Jared Koonce graduated from WCJC Police Academy. Our congratulations to the family.

Birthday wishes go out to Jacek Szymkowski, Caleen Moffett, Richard Tyler, Jimmy Schultz, Gayle Lechler, Becky Wyatt, Carissa Kocian, Robert James Mund, Pat Cooper, Vickie Jetelina, Cheri Muegge, J.C. Rodriguez, Addy Garza, Derek Bollom, Caleb Winkenwerder and Bonnie Wishert.

KCs having birthdays this week are: John RIvera, Miguel Aguilar, Louis Gerard, Ronald Barbree, Ronnie Sablatura, Lupe Samora Jr. Joaquin Lara Jr. and Ervin Kucera.

St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford will honor their graduates on Sunday.

The new graduates are: Christopher Heffner and Ryan Jedlicka from Wharton High School, Marlon Lopez graduating from Boling High School and Kristin Polak graduating from East Bernard High School.

They will enjoy a brunch and a visit with the graduates and their families after the 9:30 a.m. Mass.

More celebrations this week include: Tony Martin, Tyler Freese, Terri Quinn, Donna Kubesch, Jamie Headley, Robert Richardson, Raquel Davis, Seewee Dupuy, Evans Ousley, Suzette Salinas and Dr. Henry Lopez Roman, who was planning a trip with his family to his native country Nicaragua.

Zach Bedynek is a new graduate from Hopper Elementary this month. He is the son of Candace and Michael Bedynek. Congratulations!

CDA No. 1990 is meeting Monday at the KC Hall. May refreshments are by Carole Arriaga, Susan Zahn, Kelly Zbranek, Dolly Zepeda, Patsy Zuber, Pauline Zuber, Lillie Alvarado, Faustina Amaro, Loraine Anders and Viola Anders. Having birthdays this week are members Nicole Orsak, Agnes Polakes and Hilda Dieringer. Scholarship chairperson Georgia Krenek reports that Christi Viktorin, Rachel Gubbels and Shea Flynn were awarded the Catholic Daughters scholarships.

WCJC students who received their final State test in order to be certified as nurses assistants are: Sarah Haedge, Cynthia Llanes, Nicole Antone, Margaret Ellis, Claudia Nunez, Karen Haedge, Pam Youngblood, Lisa Sosa, Carmen Chiesa and Heather Gussman.

They took their test last Monday from State Examiner Beverly Murrile RN. their instructor is Judy Johnson. Our best wishes in their future.

Twins Megan and Jason Smith are now legal. They turned 21 last Tuesday. A belated birthday wish to them.

Others having birthdays this week are Cyndi Maffett and James Schulz. Anniversary wishes to very dear couple Phyllis and Jeff Sliva tomorrow, Velma and Leland Treybig Sr., Guy Ray and Coi Guttenberger, Mickey and Vicki Reynolds.

CDC's kindergarten graduation is next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Blake Mican, grandson of our Josie Mican, will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., next fall of 2008.

He will study aeronautical science. Blake is the son of Anthony and Kathy Mican of El Campo.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is the world's largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace.
