County to discuss damaged bridge
By BARRY HALVORSON bhalvorson@journal-spectator.com

A special session has been scheduled by Wharton County Commissioners for Monday morning in the Wharton Courthouse Annex in Wharton.

The meeting has only three agenda items and will begin at 8:30 a.m. instead of the court's regular 9:30 a.m. start time.

The agenda includes discussion with appropriate action concerning a dangerous bridge situation on CR 424. The road runs from Hwy. 71 just south of Danevang to the Matagorda County line.

"Something has apparently damaged the bridge," Wharton County Judge John Murrile said. "So we'll discuss the matter, make arrangements to get it inspected and then look into the cost of replacement if necessary."

First up for the commissioners will be to canvass the voting from the Emergency Service District No. 2 election held May 10.

The unofficial vote total, which is made official by the canvassing process, had the district pass by a vote of 494 for to 144 against, a difference of 77.4 to 22.6 percent.
