Brahmas eliminated from Class 2A playoffs
The Brahmas battled back from a 7-3 deficit, scoring six runs in the seventh to go up 9- 6. Edna tied the score in the bottom of the inning. The bottom of the eighth inning started when Edna's Rodney Hasdorff led off with a double. Chris Whitehead was intentionally walked to set up a force but Vickery crushed the ball over the fence. It was Edna's third home run of the game. "What a great season for the Brahmas," said EB graduate and first year coach Doug Grigar "We weren't picked to make the playoffs, we made it and got beat by a good Edna team, one of the best hitting teams I've seen this year." "The Brahma players dug down deep all season to win the games that we had to win and we were blessed to be playing this week. It's extra special for me, coming back to my hometown and helping lead a group of young men to a good season." EB jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. James Powell led off with a single, Zach Rivera bunted him over to second, and Jake Hudman followed with an RBI single. Edna answered with a solo home run by Rocky Vaclavick in the bottom of the inning. Edna muscled four home runs in the third, along with to 3 hits and two walks, to go up 6-1. The Brahmas responded with two in the fourth to make it 6-3. Zach Rivera reached on an error and Hudman followed with a walk. Cameron entered the game as a courtesy runner and both moved up on a wild pitch. With two out, Matt Stelzel ripped a hard-hit ground ball that was misplayed by Edna, scoring Rivera and Mazoch. The Cowboys answered with two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. In the gut-wrenching seventh, Cameron Orsak opened with a walk for Boling. Aaron Alexander and Clint Graves then delivered bloop singles. After a strikeout, Rivera walked, scoring Orsak. Then Hudman followed with a single scoring Alexander. Luis Roldan walked, scoring Graves and Stelzel hit an infield single, scoring Rivera. Orsak then walked for the second time in the inning, scoring courtesy runner Mazoch. Then Alexander walked, scoring Roldan. Edna drew a lead off walk in the bottom of the seventh and Rocky Vaclavik hit a game-tying, two-run homer, his second of the game. It set up the eighth inning. The Cowboys advance to the area round of the playoffs and battle District 25-2A champion Salado later in the week. In the top of the bracket, Brazos, the runner-up team from 27-2A, was swept by Weimar. The Wildcats move on to play District 26-2A champion Lexington. District 27-2A champion Danbury plays Troy in a one game playoff Friday night in Weimar. |
