Roberts ready for 2A state long jump event
"It feels pretty good," said Roberts before Monday's workout at Tiger Stadium in Wharton. She enters the event with a second place Region IV jump of 17-2.75 after winning the District 27-2A even in April. Boling first year girls track coach Cynthia Clark who believes Roberts has a good chance to do well. "She's a very good jumper and hasn't had a best recorded jump," said Clark. "She's very capable of going over 18 foot if everything goes right." Clark singled out Roberts raw talent of being her strength. "She has a natural spring in her legs," said Clark. "She is very low key and just goes with the flow. She works better by herself than during the season with her team." The event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Other participants in the event includes Dublin's Tara Towns, who has the best jump with a18-6.75 effort. Hamilton's Chasey Senger has a 17-8.6 qualifying jump, Victoria Goodloe from Big Lake Reagan County has a 17-6.25 attempt, Cassi Clower from Mount Pleasant Chappel Hill has a 17- 1 jump, Jasmine Kent from Universal City Randolph has a 17- 9.75 attempt and Bangs' Andera Evers has a 16-8.25 effort. Wharton County will also be represented at the state meet by five Louise female athletes who will compete in Class A events. The Lady Hornets won the Region IV Championships last month. |
