Fair continues this week with carnival, music and exhibits

      The Wharton County Youth Fair & Exposition is up and running at the fairgrounds in Crescent, heading towards a couple of major events later this week. On Thursday, a big crowd is expected for the 26th annual Agricultural Appreciation Banquet held at 6 p.m.

Election Day on Saturday

      Voting picked up on Monday as area residents took advantage of the first of two days of extended voting in local municipal, school and special elections. Early voting ended on Tuesday and Election Day is this Saturday, May 10. Voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

EC man arrested in stabbing

      A man was arrested and charged in an El Campo stabbing last week and his girlfriend also faces charges after allegedly helping him try to leave town. Stamp prices rising by one penny
      This is the last week a 41- cent stamp will get your letters where they need to go. Effective Monday, May 12, the U.S. Postal Service cost for a standard 1 ounce letter goes up a penny with other adjustments made for shipping packages.

Cowboy Shiloh Seale takes 2nd in All-Around
      CRESCENT - Wharton County Junior College men's rodeo team found their home Johnson Arena to their liking in the final Southern Rodeo competition of the season Friday and Saturday at the Crescent Fairgrounds. Rice shortage could 'disappear,' ag leader says

      Rumors of rice shortages in some parts of the country have little to nothing to do with this year's crop. Bob Little, general manager of Rice Farmers Co-op, said he'd heard reports people were hoarding rice in California, but said he has no idea if it's a serious situation or not.
