Esperanza Pena

Funeral services for Esperanza Pena, 97, of Wharton, were held Thursday, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary was recited Wednesday at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pena died April 28, 2008 in a Sweeny hospital following a brief illness. She was born on Feb.10, 1911 in Portland, the daughter of the late Amado Trevino and Paulita Valle.

She had been a resident of Wharton since 1931 and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas. She married Santos Pena on Oct. 25, 1930 in Richmond and he preceded her in death on May 18, 1981. She was a homemaker.

Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Amanda Gonzales and Carmen Cerrillo; and brothers, Apolonio and Delfino Cerrillo.

Survivors include daughter, Rosa Ferrel and husband, Antonio of Houston; sons, Guadalupe Pena of Richmond, Jose Santos Pena of Bay City and Sixto Pena and wife, Mary of Houston; sisters, Dominga Aguilar and husband, Guadalupe, and Mary Cerrillo, all of Wharton; brothers, Jesse Cerrillo and wife, Mary Nieves, and Joe Cerrillo and wife Esther, all of Wharton; numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren.
