Boling seniors hold first senior serve to raise graduation funds
Thursday we welcomed the new Gulf Coast Medical Center CEO Randy Slack. The hospital hosted an open house organized by Marketing Director Carol Wooton. It was a nice opportunity to meet Randy, find out more about him and visit with friends. We wish him the best. Some of the friends we visited were Marilyn Sebesta, Pat and Doc Blakely, Billie Jones, Chamber President Cheryl Roach and Chamber Director Ron Sanders, Alicia Coleman, Gordon Franklin, Jim Cook, V.L. Wiley, Andy Kirkland, Raymond Harrison, Mike Wooton, Ben Sharp and so many coming and going. Don't forget that next Friday the Catholic Daughters are having the Pre-Mother's Day Bake Sale in front of the Plaza Theatre. Call Bessie Konvicka for special orders at 532-4369. Proceeds go to charities and scholarships. Hanni Wissinger, daughter of Dr. John and Anna Wissinger, bride-elect of Brandon Mican was honored with a Luau-themed bridal shower at the home of Marie Hrncir in El Campo. Hostesses were Marie Hrncir, Beth Young, Carol Barbee, Nova Lane, Sharon Rappold, Cindy McCLure, Nancy Cochran and Denise Couey. Special guests were Anna Wissinger, mother of the bride. Georgia Mican, mother of the groom; Christine Wissinger, Hanni's grandmother; Elaine Long and Eleanor Mican, Brandon's grandmothers; Ellen Peguero and Sharon Fonke, Hanni's aunts; Debra Bolcik, Brandon's aunt; and Mary Wissinger, Hanni's sister. She was presented with dishes from her pottery selection. Their wedding date is set for June 28. The matron of the Moses clan, Lola Moses went home after a few days spent at GCMC where she underwent surgery. She left the hospital with her son Doug Moses, her daughter and granddaughter. Congratulations on their first communion to Jared Fucik, son of Jody and Sandra Fucik and David Delgado, son of Florenci and Maria Delgado. Melanie Schubach was their instructor. Wilbur and Eleanor Schunka celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary; Gilbert and Theresa Hundl their 30th; Jimmy and Karen Jedlicka their 33rd; and Ron and Sandra Sanders their 16th. We met one of the new physicians in town, Dr. Biju Lukose. He and his family are living in Wharton. He is a general surgeon. Dr. Lukose and his wife Keerthma have an 11-month-old baby girl and are expecting their second baby in July, a boy. Lauryn Locke has moved in at John and Salina Locke's household. She arrived April 24 weighing 7 lbs., 11 ozs. Her first visit to the pediatrician was last Wednesday, she is absolutely beautiful, wide eyed that morning while she kept Mimi Nancy Hartman and mommy awake the night before. Proud daddy John was also at the doctor's office and so was Mimi Nancy. Paternal grandparents are Coleman and Regina Locke of Wharton and Nancy and Daryl Hartman of Rosenberg. Birthday celebrations this week are Armando Garcia, Joyce Allen, Patty Daniel, Gordon Franklin, Amy Smolik, Jonathan Howell, Christi Taylor, Ima Lee Mann, Ann Hundl, Kay Elliott, Heather Bannert, Adriana Salyer, Joe Ray Wendel, Carolyn Anderson, Doug Petter, John Wynn, Casey Rhodes, Ramiro Rodriguez and Emil Stavinoha Jr. Anniversaries this week include Bubbie and Mary Ann Frazier, Dick and Beatrice Watson, Henry and Vickie Jetelina, Kenneth and Monica Chumchal and George and Bernice Kocian. Have a beautiful and happy day everyone. CDA Court Audit was April 15 at the KC Hall. Volunteers were Patsy Venglar, Anna Heimann, Virginia Tripson, Janet Bubela and Velma Treybig. Caitlin Murphree and Chad Privitt will be united in marriage Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at Abell Street Church of Christ in Wharton. They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Murphree and Dr. and Mrs. Galen Privitt. Don't forget to get your tickets for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Annual Bazaar and Barbecue dinner on Sunday, May 11, on the church grounds. Plates are $7 and will be available for dining in or drivethrough. The church is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Everyone is invited. Next Monday Mexican Americans and Texans celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza led the Mexican army of 4,000 in the battle against French troops and traitor Mexican Army that were invading Puebla, Mexico on May 5, 1862. His army defeated the 8,000 French and Gen. Zaragoza, born in Goliad, is considered the hero of Cinco de Mayo. Wharton Nursing and Rehab Center will be having a big celebration with Mexican food, pinata, pegarle la cola al burro and music in Spanish by fiddler, entertainer turned rancher Doc Blakely and his partner Bill Havins.
