Robert Hlavinka is extending a challenge to all FFA, 4-H and civic organizations in the county.
Hlavinka, chairman of the Tug of War event at the Wharton County Youth Fair, wants to see who can put together the best team and win the World Tug of War Championship.
At stake are awards for the first three places and, most importantly, the braggin' rights for Wharton County.
The event will be held at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the Ammann Barn.
The entry fee is free and any team of six persons may enter.
"Hey, we even have room enough for any number of girls teams, if they would like to participate," Hlavinka said. "All they have to do is show up about 7:15 p.m. on May 8 and sign up." Hlavinka says this is an event which will fill the stadium with people rooting for their favorites.
He said it is a long-running event having been instituted about 1980 and continues to draw a crowd.
Chapters, clubs and organizations are welcome to field as many teams as they can put together.
