COLUMBIA - Wharton's baseball team found itself in good position to claim a District 24-3A playoff spot before playing Columbia Friday night at Renfro Field.

"We have to beat Columbia and it's going to be a war. Hopefully we'll end up on top."

The Bluejays, after losing to 24-3A champion Sweeny 6-5, were 9-4. The Bulldogs were 12-1 and played 5-8 Stafford. Columbus was 7-6 before playing winless Royal.
