Manuel Lozano
Manuel Galindo Lozano Sr., age 87, of Wharton, died peacefully during his siesta on Monday, April 21, 2008 in Wharton following a brief illness. He was born on Feb. 7, 1921 in Wharton the son of the late Porfirio Lozano Sr. and Fernanda Galindo Lozano.
Mr. Lozano was a lifelong resident of Wharton and was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. He married Antonia Garza on Sept. 13, 1942 in Wharton and they were married for over 65 years. He worked as an equipment repairman for several vending machine companies until his retirement in July of 1997. He also volunteered with the construction to help build Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. He was a 50-plus year member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Holy Name Society.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Manuel Lozano, Jr. and Jose Luis Lozano; a brother, Porfirio Lozano Jr.; and a sister, Dolores L. Cisneros.
A rosary was recited Wednesday evening, April 23, 2008 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako, Father Bryan Heyer and Rev. Augustine Nsiah-Asanti officiating with Deacon David Valdez assisting. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Survivors include his wife, Antonia Lozano of Wharton; and a daughter, Sister Anna Maria Lozano of Wharton; grandchildren; Christopher Lozano of Manvel, Manuel Lozano III of Portland, Conn., Brian Lozano of Houston, Jonathan Lozano of Victoria, Pebbles Lozano of Blaine, Minn., Tricia L. Martin of Beaumont and Stacy L. McCord of Houston; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jason Villarreal, Gary Nunez, Chris Lozano, Brian Lozano, Robert Garcia, Manuel Lozano III and Jonathan Lozano.
Honorary Pallbearers were Felix Martinez, Johnny Villarreal, Abel Cisneros Jr., Gabino Araguz, Tom Araguz, George Nunez Sr. and all of his many close friends.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
