Hines bikes in 150-mile MS fundraiser

Randy Hines, son of James and Kathy Hines of River Valley, rode in the BP-MS 150 Bike Ride held recently to raise funds for multiple sclerosis.

His parents and brother

Jimmy met him in Bellville and they had lunch with the 13,000 bikers.

Kathy said, "It was awesome to see that many bikers together to take part in such a worthy cause."

Exhibitors in the Creative Arts Department for the Wharton County Youth Fair need to check their items in from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1.

Enter through Gate No. 3 on FM 960. It is in front of the Creative Arts Building.

The family of John Woodard hosted a 90th birthday celebration for him on April 12 at the fairgrounds.

His daughter Hazel Spiller headed up the event. His other children were in attendance, including son Melvin Woodard from Maryland. Lou Brown of Washington, D.C., served as emcee. The party was a social reception with catered finger foods.

John was escorted into the event by his great-niece Margaret Sparks. Granddaughter Weta Clark of North Carolina gave a tribute to him and granddaughter Linda White sang a song for him. Great-nephew Jobie Phillips blessed the food. There was time for reminiscing and a roast-and-toast period. Granddaughters Danielle and Dawn traveled from Virginia. Grandson Chuck Malone provided music.

The Twentieth Century District Choir workshop will take place at Sand Ridge Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on April 26. Guest speaker will be Patrick Williams of Houston.
