DAR celebrates 94th birthday The Comfort Wood Chapter celebrated its 94th birthday on April 18 at Pat-A-Cake on the Square in Wharton. After the lunch members were served birthday cake. Each member was given a copy of the 1974 newspaper article, when the chapter celebrated 50 years. On April 20, 1914, Comfort Wood Chapter, Texas Society, Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in here. The mission statement of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. The chapter believes it is its duty to embrace the legacy which has been inherited from its forefathers and to encourage a strong sense of patriotism. National DAR was founded Oct. 11, 1890 and incorporated in 1896 by an Act of Congress. If interested in becoming a member, the qualifications are: any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.
