Wharton baseball team clips Cardinals wings 8-4

      Wharton's remained in the District 24-2A playoff race after beating Columbus 8-4 Friday night at Tiger Field. The Tigers improved to 5-5 and battled 9-1 Needville Tuesday night. WCJC rodeo teams compete at Southern Region at Carthage
      CARTHAGE - WCJC's women and men's rodeo teams particpated in the Panola Southern Region competition on April 4-5. The women's team finished third with 198 1/2 points. Texas A&M took the title with 563 1/2 points and Hill College was second with 428 points.

Lady Tigers drop 3-2 heartbreaker

      Wharton's softball team dropped a hard-fought, 3-2 heartbreaker to Columbus in a 10 innings at Sydney- Johnston Field Friday night. The 9-3 Lady Cardinals, which played 10-2 Sweeny Tuesday night, scored the winning run with two outs in the 10th.

      VAN VLECK - Boling's baseball team kept it's slim District 27-2A playoffs hopes alive by beating Van Vleck 9-6 Friday night. The Bulldogs improved to 2-5 in league play and battled Wharton County rival and 4-3 East Bernard Tuesday night.

      BRENHAM - WCJC's baseball team got swept out of Leroy Dryer Field at Blinn College Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers dropped the doubleheader to Blinn by 5-4 and 5-2 scores. WCJC dropped the first game of the series 7-5 at Tiger Field on Wednesday.

      EAST BERNARD - Boling's softball team needed a win over Wharton County rival East Bernard Tuesday night at Koym Field to secure the third and fi- nal District 27-2A playoff spot. The Lady Bulldogs beat Brazos 12-0 on Friday to improve to 7-4 going into the EB game.

      The month of May brings athletic banquets to East Wharton County. The 45th Annual Wharton County Junior College Banquet is set for May 6. Advance tickets, priced at $10 are now on sale. The deadline for purchase is April 25. Athletes are admitted free of charge.
