Organizations expand services in Wharton We are fortunate to have two organizations committed to a bigger presence in Wharton. The Crisis Center has gone from a single room in the Shannon Building to a suite in the General Services, 116 E. Burleson St., the metal building two doors away from the old county jail. The Crisis Center, also serving Matagorda County, has always served us well. Now they have the facilities they need to serve us in a better way, with privacy for clients and even a place for their children to play. The space had been occupied by the juvenile probation department, which has moved to the court building at the southeast corner of the courthouse square. That's the old Oshman Building. Hoffmann and The Crisis Center has joined our Chamber of Commerce, and the ribbon cutting and open house was Tuesday. Another organization, the American Red Cross, also has joined the chamber. Their ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10 a.m. today. Their office is at the same building as the Crisis Center, 116 E. Burleson St. We used to be affiliated with the Red Cross north of us in Fort Bend County. We are now with Matagorda County, resulting in a closer, more responsive relationship. We hear great things about them. And we welcome them into the chamber. As these two fine organizations - the Crisis Center and the Red Cross - support our community, we need to support them as well. |
